Janet Daniel first became interested in textiles while living in Bolivia in 1970-71.  For a brief period she imported Andean fiberart.  Soon thereafter she studied weaving and began exploring the many techniques available to an artist with a loom.  Reflecting her continuing interest in the indigenous art of South America, many of her woven stoles use alpaca yarn.  Her wall hangings have generally drawn their themes from nature.

Janet Daniel’s work has won awards in many juried shows.  Woven pieces of hers are in the permanent collections of the Smithsonian Institution, the Ohio Museum of Craft, Plymouth Church, and Laurel Lake Retirement Community, as well as in the collections of many private individuals in the United States and Europe.

The book of Earth has many pages.  As I weave, I recall the wondrous pages I have seen.  I work to recapture feelings...of awe at the foot of mountains, of being surrounded in valleys, of the solidity of rocks and trees, of refreshment beside water, of exhilaration from a shaft of light, of joy in color.
